A Website for an Accountant

Transmanche Accountancy Services offer tax planning, business start-up, book-keeping and accountancy services to clients in France and the UK. Their existing website was built using a proprietary site builder product which, although enabling them to get their content onto the web, did not easily allow them to structure the site, the navigation, the SEO etc. as they would like.

So they approached me with a view to freshening the site up for them whilst retaining the bulk of their existing content.

Our Solution

As the solution was part of our Freshen-Up package (which takes existing web content and migrates it to a fresh new wordpress site) we used WordPress for the site build, with a premium theme and plugins such as Collision Testimonials, Gravity Forms and Google XML Sitemap.

We wanted to ensure that all external links (incl. search engine) that had built up over the years that the existing site was in place, were retained. We did this by adding what’s called a “301 permanent redirect” in the .htaccess file, pointing each existing page to the equivalent page on the new site. It’s very important to consider this if you are changing the page names / urls, especially if you have :

  1. lots of pages indexed by the search engines
  2. some pages with high Page Rank
  3. lots of other websites that link to your old site

Remember

If you change your website and don’t consider what to do with your existing site traffic – you will lose it!
