We’ve just completed an extensive exercise to improve the SEO on a furniture website. The site had around 60 product categories, and although each of them had a reasonable default SEO title and Meta description (courtesy of the Yoast SEO Plugin) we felt it would be better if each product category had something specific that related to the real products available within each category and which would be more compelling for search engine visitors to click.
So we manually edited each and every product category, identifying a target keyword and then coming up with a compelling, user-friendly SEO title and meta description with a clear call-to-action. Although this sort of exercise should always be seen as a long-term, slow-burn way to improve search engine traffic, early signs have been very encouraging and the website owner has already witnessed his highest weekly search traffic of the year.
