Social Media Widget is a WordPress plugin that helps website owners add icons to their widget areas to link to their social media accounts.
We had a client who was trying to remove the Google+ icon and link from their site (since Google Plus now ceases to exist).
The solution wasn’t obvious to the client (or, initially, to us), but following our noses we managed to resolve it by:
- Opening the ‘Social Media Widget’ in the widget area
- Clicking the ‘Social Networking’ dropdown tab
- Removing the ‘http://’ placeholder from the social network to be removed
- Clicking ‘Save’ at the bottom of the widget

The plugin hasn’t been updated for a while, but if you are interested you can find it here…
